Two years postdoc position and shorter visiting grants (1 month – 6 months)
are available at
Warsaw University of Technology in research domains related to the following
fields:

1. Statistical physics of social interactions in internet communities
2. Enhancement of information processing in hierarchical networks by
stochastic resonance

A two years postdoc position ending in January 2013 in the domain
statistical physics of social
interactions in internet communities or enhancement of information
processing in hierarchical networks
by stochastic resonance is available at the Center of Excellence for Complex
Systems Research, Faculty
of Physics, Warsaw University of Technology.
Applicants should have a strong background in statistical physics of complex
systems as well as a
genuine interest in interdisciplinary applications of physical methods in
social sciences.

The position will be paid from the ongoing EU Grants:
CYBEREMOTIONS - Collective Emotions in Cyberspace (www.cyberemotions.eu)
and/or
DYNANETS – Dynamically Changing Networks (www.dynanets.org).

Position details
The position will be connected to Project Workpackages:
1. Statistical physics approach for prediction of emotional activity in
e-communities
(CYBEREMOTIONS Project) and
2. Information processing on dynamical complex networks (DYNANETS Project).
Ad. 1. The main objective is to apply statistical physics and nonlinear
theory of complex systems for
modelling of collective emotions emergence and to create analytical tools
which can be used for response
prediction in terms of collective emotional states to external critical
events. The theoretical studies /
predictions are verified by numerical simulations and checked against
real-data driven simulations. The
project has a multidisciplinary character and it is based on intensive
collaboration with specialists from
social science/ psychophysiology (emotion dynamics), applied mathematics
(webometrics) as well as
artificial intelligence (dialog systems, interactions between human and
artificial agents).
Ad. 2 The key point is to study constructive noise interference for
collective information processing
(stochastic resonance) in hierarchical complex networks. The research
includes modeling of the structure
of complex hierarchical networks, numerical simulations of network dynamics
(Monte Carlo approach) as
well as analytical calculations based on appropriately tailored mean field
approach or on other methods .
The Center offers also a number of shorter visiting grants (1 month – 6
months) for researchers
interested in above subjects.
Requirements
1. Completed Ph.D. in physics (preferred: statistical physics, complex
systems, sociophysics)
2. Good knowledge in at least of one of the following research domains:
nonequilibrium statistical
physics, phase transitions, stochastic resonance, complex networks, agents
modelling, opinion dynamics.
3. Experience in computer programming or data analysis
4. Ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary and international
environment
